Thirst and communication

On October 23, we held a business breakfast on the theme “Crisis of Ideas.” Agencies and clients gathered, about 40 people. Breakfast lasted two hours and we talked quite interestingly. I want to highlight one idea.

Comparing Russian events with Western ones, everyone notes that Western ones are somehow simpler, but more beautiful, or something. And this happens because people communicate at events; they do not need to be very intensively entertained or come up with an awesome program. Events bring together, if not like-minded people, then people who have many common themes, they are aware of this, they are already interested in each other. Therefore, relatively more money remains for decoration, decorations, and exquisite catering. Here is the result.

Our people strive to eat and drink quickly. Action on stage - a concert, show or competition should entertain people, replacing them with communication. Well, it’s true, if everyone is tensely silent, it will be a bad event. Therefore, our events are different - with a stronger program, but more expensive. And if you have to spend a lot of money on events, you have to hold them less often.

The sad conclusion is that since a person rarely participates in events (conditionally - a couple of times a year), he has no practice of socialization, communication with other people - family and closest colleagues do not count. Since there is little socialization, he will try to carry out the existing events in communication only with those whom he knows. And at the same time he will think that it is not he who is boring, but an event. How to break this circle?

I think we need to hold more simple and unpretentious events for companies and people. Find a reason to get together with neighbors, residents of a neighboring house or office and communicate. Training is a great power!

And by the way, one more observation. Berlov and I have been hosting business breakfasts for quite some time. And we are already accustomed to the fact that people come for breakfast, drink coffee, eat their croissants and are silent - they simply listen favorably to how they are being spoken to (to be honest, I must admit that not all, but many). They eat, are silent, listen and leave, concluding that everything around them is useless and boring. Listening to a performance is like watching a concert, the role is very passive.

So, the situation has changed. This time we made a presentation about our opinion regarding the crisis of ideas. But people actually communicated and argued. It was wonderful.
