In 1986, slow-motion started in Rome.
In the square of Spain, in the historical center of Rome, McDonalds was opened, the embodiment of the American way of life, fast-food, the temple of haste. The Italian publicist Carlo Petrini was indignant at this fact and called for upholding the “normal” pace of life, tempo giusto. Seek balance in life, and not participate in the eternal race. Slow movement is not about everything being done at a snail's speed.
This is an appeal to do everything on time, without compromising. In spite of fast-food, when you consume a maximum of calories in a minimum of time, slow-food has appeared, when you can enjoy the cooking process, flavors, conversation and thereby enjoy life. In addition to restaurateurs, the Slow movement was supported by journalists, there is the Slow journalism movement, in which journalists write analytics, conduct journalistic investigations, write essays, as in the good old days. There are slow-education, slow-art and many other slow. Slow movement - not for lazy people, but for perfectionists. You cannot do a perfect thing faster than it should be. Perfectionists cannot be hasty. These are those who, when choosing which is more important - faster or better - answer better. It seems that in the profession of event organizers, the moment has come when the banner of Slow Events should be raised.
The professionalism of the organizers has reached such a level that many things are done on the fly, just like that, because it has become possible. Instant changes in the program, final editing of the video before the start of the show, making changes to the layouts and instant printing - all this has become a chore. Overloaded event programs - maximum fuss in minimum time. It is not right. Event-agency completely changes the program of the event at the oral request of the customer right before the start, and all guests expect that the whole team of organizers, dozens of people, will act synchronously and harmoniously. Although the fact that they were rehearsing had just been sent into oblivion ... Why? Why it is necessary to sacrifice so many efforts, for the sake of pride - but we were able, we were in time.
This is a sad achievement related to stress. Already, many agencies refuse tenders, the preparation of which is given 2-3 days. What is it for? Why, due to someone’s poor planning, should professional and expensive specialists work at night or on weekends to prepare a tender for 1.5-2 weeks? Good agencies will refuse such a tender and the hasty customer will receive offers only from new agencies that are ready to take on everything for the sake of the portfolio.
Well and to "fill up cones", gaining experience, together with the customer of course. Fast-tenders will not lead to good. Indeed, for the participants of the event, it does not matter how much the project was preparing: 2 weeks in hell stress or 2 months in normal mode, with the consideration of all the details. The guests came for one evening and want to spend this evening well, only the result is important to them. And the competition for the attention of the guests will be won by those who make more thoughtful events. Quality will surely win. Therefore, I hope that soon the agencies will be able to prove, and the customers will be able to accept the fact that you should not pull the director too often - the result will be better.
That the terms of preparation and installation should be agreed, and not dictated. That you should not rush a good designer too much - he will make the layout more qualitatively, have time to align all symmetrical axes, and you will have time to check for errors in the header on a large banner, for example. And everyone will notice that you should not overload the program of the event, otherwise guests will not be able to enjoy it and will only get tired. Slow-food tastes better, and slow-events bring more happiness. We are waiting for tempo giusto - as a competitive advantage of quality.
And fast-events and fast-tenders, like fast-food, let them occupy their niche of casual or inexpensive spending time.
